Mike Kenji Shinoda

Mike Shinoda is a Japanese-American musician, rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and visual artist. He is best known as the rapper, rhythm guitarist, keyboardist, and co-vocalist for the rock band Linkin Park. Following the death of lead singer Chester Bennington, Shinoda became the band's frontman. He has also released several solo projects and founded the hip-hop-driven group Fort Minor.

Early Life

Born in Agoura, California, to Japanese-American parents, Shinoda was raised in Agoura Hills. He began formal classical piano training at age six and added jazz and hip-hop influences during his teens. He graduated from Agoura High School and later earned a degree in illustration from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.

Career

Shinoda co-founded Linkin Park (originally Xero) in 1996. He played a significant role in shaping the band's distinctive nu-metal and later alternative rock sound, contributing as a rapper, vocalist, songwriter, instrumentalist, and producer. After Bennington's passing, Shinoda released his debut solo album, Post Traumatic, in 2018, which explored his grief and healing process. He continues to create music and visual art.

Personal Life

Shinoda is married to author Anna Hillinger and they have three children. He is actively involved in philanthropy and supports various charitable causes.

Awards

As a member of Linkin Park, Shinoda has won two Grammy Awards: Best Hard Rock Performance for "Crawling" and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Numb/Encore" with Jay-Z.
