Sara Keirsten Quin

Sara Keirsten Quin (born September 19, 1980) is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, and author, best known as one half of the indie pop duo Tegan and Sara, alongside her identical twin sister Tegan Quin. Sara primarily plays keyboards, guitar, and percussion instruments. She is also recognized for her distinctive lower vocal harmony in their music.

Early Life

Sara Quin was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on September 19, 1980. She and her twin sister, Tegan, attended Crescent Heights High School in Calgary, where they began their musical journey.

Career

Sara formed Tegan and Sara with her sister in 1999. They independently released their first two albums, Under Feet Like Ours (1999) and This Business of Art (2000), before signing with Vapor Records. They gained wider recognition with subsequent albums like So Jealous (2004), The Con (2007), Sainthood (2009), Heartthrob (2013), Love You to Death (2016), and Hey, I'm Just Like You (2019). Sara is a key songwriter and instrumentalist for the duo, contributing to their signature indie pop sound. Beyond music, she co-authored a memoir with Tegan titled High School, published in 2019, and adapted into a TV series.

Sara is openly gay and married. She is a strong advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and equality.
