Born November 20, 1946, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Woodruff's family moved frequently due to her father's military career. She graduated from Duke University in 1968 with a degree in political science.
Career
Woodruff began her journalism career in 1970 at the ABC affiliate in Atlanta. She joined NBC News in 1976, serving as White House correspondent during the Carter and Reagan administrations. In 1983, she moved to CNN, where she anchored Inside Politics. Woodruff joined PBS in 1993 as a senior correspondent for The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour, later becoming co-anchor and managing editor. She has also worked for Bloomberg Television.
