Early Life
Brett Gurewitz was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He co-founded Bad Religion in 1979 while still in high school.
Career
Gurewitz founded Epitaph Records in the early 1980s initially to release Bad Religion's music. The label quickly expanded, signing and releasing albums by other influential punk bands, contributing significantly to the punk rock resurgence of the 1990s. He has also produced albums for numerous artists on Epitaph and other labels. Gurewitz has written or co-written many of Bad Religion's most well-known songs.
Personal Life
Gurewitz is a recovering addict and has been open about his struggles with substance abuse. He is a vegan and an outspoken animal rights activist.
