Shaka Hislop

Shaka Hislop is a former professional footballer turned football analyst and commentator, prominently featured on ESPN FC. He played as a goalkeeper, notably for Reading, West Ham United, and the Trinidad and Tobago national team.

Early Life

Born in London, England, Hislop grew up in Trinidad and Tobago. He attended Howard University in the United States, where he played college soccer and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Career

Hislop's professional career began in 1992 with Reading. He later played for Newcastle United, West Ham United, and Portsmouth in the English leagues. Hislop represented Trinidad and Tobago internationally, most notably at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, their first and only appearance in the tournament.

Personal Life

Hislop is known for his advocacy work and charitable involvement. In 2018, he collapsed on live television during a pre-match show, an incident attributed to heat exhaustion. He has since spoken openly about the experience and the importance of health awareness.
