David Bryan

David Bryan Rashbaum, known professionally as David Bryan, is an American musician, songwriter, and composer best known as the keyboardist for the rock band Bon Jovi. Beyond his contributions to the band's numerous hit songs, he has also achieved success composing for Broadway, notably winning two Tony Awards for the musical Memphis.

Early Life

Born February 7, 1962, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Bryan began playing piano at the age of seven. He attended the Juilliard School pre-college program for thirteen years. He studied at Rutgers University, majoring in music.

Career

Bryan joined Bon Jovi in 1983, contributing keyboards, backing vocals, and songwriting to the band's extensive catalog. He co-wrote hits like "Livin' on a Prayer," "You Give Love a Bad Name," and "Keep the Faith." Beyond Bon Jovi, Bryan pursued a successful career in musical theater, composing the score for the Broadway hit Memphis, which won him two Tony Awards.

Personal Life

Bryan is married and has children. In 1991, he contracted South American trypanosomiasis. He also overcame a serious hand injury that threatened his musical career.

Awards

Bryan has won numerous awards with Bon Jovi, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He won two Tony Awards (Best Original Score and Best Orchestrations) for Memphis.
