Al Leiter

Al Leiter is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) left-handed pitcher and current baseball analyst for MLB Network. He played 19 seasons in the MLB for the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Florida Marlins, and New York Mets. Known for his intensity and competitive spirit, Leiter was a two-time World Series champion and a two-time All-Star.

Early Life

Born May 23, 1965, in Toms River, New Jersey, Leiter grew up in a baseball family. His cousin, Mark Leiter, also pitched in the major leagues.

Career

Leiter was drafted by the New York Yankees in the second round of the 1984 MLB draft. He made his major league debut in 1987. He was a key member of the 1997 World Series champion Florida Marlins and the 1999 World Series champion New York Yankees. He pitched a no-hitter for the Marlins in 1996. After retiring from playing in 2005, Leiter transitioned to broadcasting, becoming a prominent analyst for MLB Network.

Personal Life

Leiter is actively involved in charitable work, particularly with the Leiter's Landing foundation, which supports children's hospitals and families in need.
