Career
Nicol's professional playing career spanned from 1981 to 1999. He is best known for his 13-year stint with Liverpool, where he won numerous titles, including five First Division championships, three FA Cups, and the European Cup in 1984. He also played for Ayr United, Notts County, Sheffield Wednesday, West Bromwich Albion, Doncaster Rovers, and New England Revolution in Major League Soccer (MLS). After retiring as a player, Nicol transitioned into coaching, managing New England Revolution, where he won the US Open Cup and was named MLS Coach of the Year in 2002. He later had coaching spells with the Canadian national team and USL Pro side, Tampa Bay Rowdies. Nicol is currently a prominent football analyst for ESPN FC, known for his outspoken opinions and insightful analysis.
