Huw Edwards

Huw Edwards is a prominent Welsh journalist and newsreader, best known as the lead presenter for BBC News. He has anchored major events like royal weddings, elections, and state funerals, becoming a familiar face to millions of viewers.

Early Life

Born in Bridgend, Wales, in 1961, Edwards was educated at Llanelli Boys' Grammar School and graduated with a first-class honours degree in French from University College, Cardiff. He later pursued postgraduate studies in Medieval French at Cardiff University.

Career

Edwards joined the BBC as a news trainee in 1984. He rose through the ranks, becoming Parliamentary Correspondent for BBC Wales and later presenting the Six O'Clock News, the Ten O'Clock News, and the flagship news program News at Ten. He has also presented numerous special programs and documentaries.

Personal Life

Edwards is married and has five children. He is a fluent Welsh speaker and a prominent supporter of the Welsh language and culture.

Awards

Edwards has received a BAFTA Cymru award for his coverage of the Aberfan disaster and has been honored with the title of Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales.
