Sonny John Moore

Sonny John Moore, known professionally as Skrillex, is an American DJ, record producer, musician, singer, and songwriter. Rising to fame as the lead vocalist of the post-hardcore band From First to Last, he embarked on a solo career in electronic music, pioneering the brostep genre and becoming a prominent figure in the EDM scene.

Early Life

Born January 15, 1988, in Los Angeles, California, Moore was adopted as an infant and raised in Northeast Los Angeles and Northern California. He learned he was adopted at age 16. In his pre-teens, he attended a local boarding school specializing in the arts, but was later homeschooled due to bullying. He developed an interest in music at a young age.

Career

In 2004, Moore joined the post-hardcore band From First to Last as lead vocalist. After two studio albums, he left the band in 2007 to pursue a solo career. Initially performing under the alias Twipz, he later adopted the name Skrillex. He gained significant recognition with his EPs My Name Is Skrillex (2010) and Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (2010). His debut studio album, Recess, was released in 2014. He has collaborated with numerous artists, including Diplo, Justin Bieber, and Boys Noize.

Awards

Skrillex has won eight Grammy Awards, including Best Dance/Electronica Album, Best Dance Recording, and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. He has also received numerous other awards and nominations.
