George Harrison

George Harrison MBE (25 February 1943 – 29 November 2001) was an English musician, singer-songwriter, and lead guitarist of the Beatles. Often referred to as the "quiet Beatle", Harrison embraced Indian culture and helped broaden the Beatles' musical horizons. He also had a successful solo career.

Early Life

Born in Liverpool, England, Harrison developed an early interest in music. He met Paul McCartney on the school bus and later joined John Lennon's band, the Quarrymen, which evolved into the Beatles.

Career

As lead guitarist for the Beatles, Harrison contributed to their songwriting and distinctive sound. While initially overshadowed by Lennon and McCartney, his songwriting talent blossomed with songs like "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Here Comes the Sun," and "Something." After the Beatles' breakup, he launched a successful solo career, releasing acclaimed albums like All Things Must Pass and Living in the Material World. He also co-founded the Traveling Wilburys with Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne.

Personal Life

Harrison was married twice, first to Pattie Boyd and later to Olivia Arias, with whom he had a son, Dhani. He was a dedicated practitioner of Hinduism and incorporated its philosophy into his music and life.

Awards

Harrison was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, once as a member of the Beatles and posthumously for his solo career. He also received numerous awards for his work with the Beatles, including multiple Grammy Awards.
