Shawn Peter Raul Mendes was born on August 8, 1998, in Pickering, Ontario, Canada, to Karen and Manuel Mendes. He has a younger sister, Aaliyah. He grew up in a suburb of Toronto and showed an early interest in music.

Career

Mendes's career began on Vine, where he posted six-second covers of popular songs. His popularity on the platform led to him being discovered by artist manager Andrew Gertler and signing with Island Records in 2014. He released his debut single "Life of the Party" that year, followed by his debut album Handwritten in 2015. He has since released several successful albums, including Illuminate (2016), Shawn Mendes (2018), and Wonder (2020).
