David Jude Jolicoeur

David Jude Jolicoeur, better known by his stage name Trugoy the Dove and later Plug Two, was an American rapper and producer. He was a founding member of the iconic hip-hop trio De La Soul, known for their innovative and eclectic sampling, playful lyrics, and positive vibes. Their debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising, is considered a landmark album in alternative hip-hop.

Early Life

Born on September 21, 1968, in Brooklyn, New York, Jolicoeur spent his formative years in Amityville, Long Island. He met fellow future De La Soul members Posdnuos and Maseo in high school.

Career

De La Soul formed in 1987 and quickly gained attention for their unique sound, which incorporated elements of jazz, funk, and psychedelia. Jolicoeur, as Trugoy the Dove, played a crucial role in the group's creative process, contributing rhymes and production ideas. De La Soul released several critically acclaimed albums throughout their career, including De La Soul Is Dead, Buhloone Mindstate, and Stakes Is High. They were known for their collaborations with other artists, including the Gorillaz and Jungle Brothers.

Jolicoeur was known for his private nature. He passed away on February 12, 2023.
