Carson co-founded AFI in 1991 while still in high school, along with Davey Havok, Mark Stopholese, and Vic Chalker. He has been the band's consistent drummer throughout their career, contributing to their evolution from hardcore punk to a more melodic and experimental rock sound. He has played on all of AFI's studio albums, including their breakthrough albums Sing the Sorrow and Decemberunderground.
