Terms of Service

Last updated: May 29, 2025

These Terms of Service (“Terms”, “Terms of Service”) govern your access to and use of the www.videokb.com and www.vdkb.me websites and all associated services (collectively, the “Service”), operated by VideoKB ("Video Knowledge Base", "VKB", "VdKB", “we”, “us”, or “our”).

These Terms apply to all visitors, users, contributors, and moderators who access or interact with the Service. The Service includes all platform features, moderation tools, content pages, APIs, and backend systems provided under the VideoKB name or any of its variants. You acknowledge that your continued use of the platform signifies your acceptance of these Terms in full.

If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must discontinue your use of the Service immediately.

1. Eligibility and Account Access

  • You must be at least 14 years old to use the Service.
  • Certain features, such as editing channels or members profiles, require a registered and approved account.
  • All accounts must be manually approved by VideoKB before gaining access to content editing or moderation tools.
  • VideoKB may suspend or terminate any account at its sole discretion, with or without notice.

2. User Content and Licensing

VideoKB hosts two types of content on the platform:

  • YouTube-sourced content: This includes channel names, video titles, thumbnails, statistics, and banners obtained through the YouTube API. This material is owned by the respective channel owners and displayed on VideoKB under the terms of the YouTube API Services. VideoKB does not claim ownership of this content and acts solely as a redistributor of publicly available metadata. YouTube-sourced content is not considered user-submitted content, and no ownership or licensing rights are claimed or transferred over it.
  • User-submitted content: This includes all other materials contributed to the platform by users, moderators, or contributors. Examples include members lists, biographies, tags, editorial summaries, suggested corrections, user-uploaded photos, and profile enhancements.

By submitting any user-generated content to VideoKB, you agree to the following terms:

  • You permanently transfer all intellectual property rights in your contributions to VideoKB, making VideoKB the sole and exclusive owner of such content.
  • You confirm that you have the legal right to create and submit such content and that it does not infringe on any third-party rights.
  • You waive any moral rights or rights of retraction to the extent permitted by law.
  • VideoKB may use, publish, modify, distribute, or remove your submitted content at its sole discretion, with or without notice.

If you choose to delete your account, all contributions you have made to the platform will remain the property of VideoKB. This ensures the continued value, consistency, and integrity of the platform's knowledge base. Content contributed to VideoKB becomes part of the platform's collective knowledge base and will not be removed upon account deletion or contributor request.

3. Moderator Levels and Contribution System

VideoKB features a tiered moderator system designed to recognize and reward meaningful community participation. As users contribute verified and approved edits to channels, members entries, or other public-facing content, they may be assigned a moderator level based on the total number of approved contributions:

  • Scout (0–9 edits)
  • Logger (10–49 edits)
  • Curator (50–199 edits)
  • Assembler (200–499 edits)
  • Director (500–999 edits)
  • Producer (1000+ edits, top-tier)

Only meaningful and approved edits count toward moderator levels. Examples include adding a new member, correcting verified information, or improving the accuracy of a channel entry. Minor or superficial edits, such as unnecessary spacing changes or low-effort submissions, may be rejected and do not qualify for progress toward moderator status.

These moderator levels are honorary and reflect a user's voluntary contributions to the platform. Volunteer moderators are not employees or contractors of VideoKB and receive no monetary compensation. Their involvement is community-driven and highly appreciated.

Moderators who reach the Director level (500 approved edits) will receive a free, limited-edition VideoKB mug as a token of appreciation. The mug will be shipped free of charge to any location worldwide. However, local customs duties, taxes, or handling fees (if any) are not covered by VideoKB and remain the responsibility of the recipient. We do not ship to P.O. boxes. VideoKB may refuse to ship to certain locations at its sole discretion, including high-risk regions, unrecognized territories, or technically unreachable destinations such as the Moon.

To accelerate content creation and ensure data quality, VideoKB may also employ internal team members or hire paid moderators at its sole discretion. These paid roles are operational and exist outside the community tier system.

High-ranking volunteer moderators may receive additional permissions such as auto-approval rights. All physical rewards, like mugs or badges, are symbolic and have no cash value. Moderator levels, eligibility criteria, and benefits may be updated at any time as the platform evolves.

Moderator status requires the submission of a valid public profile picture, bio, and social media handle for verification purposes. All submitted information must comply with VideoKB's content guidelines. Failure to provide or maintain an appropriate image, bio, or verified handle may result in the suspension or removal of moderator privileges.

All content submitted by moderators is governed by the licensing terms outlined in Section 2. Moderator-created content remains the property of VideoKB, even if a moderator account is suspended, deleted, or closed.

4. External Content and Data Sources

Google API Services & YouTube Content

VideoKB uses the YouTube Data API and related Google API Services to access and display publicly available channel information, including:

  • Channel metadata
  • Subscriber and video statistics
  • Thumbnails and banner images

When a user claims a channel, VideoKB may also access basic Google account information, including:

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Profile picture

This limited data access is used solely to verify ownership and link a channel to a VideoKB user account. VideoKB does not access private videos, analytics, or any non-public content. Use of Google API Services complies with the YouTube API Services Terms of Service and the Google API Services User Data Policy.

Google Generative Language API

VideoKB uses the Google Generative Language API to assist in content enrichment, such as suggesting metadata or summarizing descriptions. This AI-generated content is derived from publicly available information and used to enhance the quality and usability of the platform. No personal or private data is sent to Google's generative services.

OpenAI-Powered Content

VideoKB also uses OpenAI services to generate and enhance content through automated processes. This includes:

  • Generating channel descriptions and member details (e.g., names, roles, biographies, and birthdates)
  • Creating summaries, metadata suggestions, and improved phrasing
  • Producing translations of bios and descriptions in multiple languages

All AI-generated content is based on publicly available data. While contributors may review and refine this content, not all entries or translations are manually verified. As such, VideoKB does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or linguistic quality of any AI-generated data or translations.

Cloudflare Services

VideoKB uses Cloudflare to improve the performance, security, and availability of the platform. This includes caching static assets, accelerating content delivery via its global content delivery network (CDN), mitigating DDoS attacks, and routing network traffic.

As a result, some user requests and site traffic may be processed through Cloudflare's infrastructure. By using the Service, you acknowledge that data such as your IP address and browser metadata may be temporarily handled by Cloudflare in accordance with their Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Original Language Disclaimer

Channel names, thumbnails, video titles, and videos displayed on VideoKB are presented in their original version (VO) as provided by the content creators. This material is not created or owned by VideoKB, and we do not translate or alter it without explicit authorization. While the platform interface is available in multiple languages, the actual channel content remains in its original language to preserve accuracy and respect copyright and creator intent.

AI Disclosure

VideoKB uses artificial intelligence services to assist in generating and improving content across the platform. This includes AI-generated summaries, descriptions, translated biographies, metadata suggestions, and other enhancements derived from publicly available information.

These features are powered by services such as OpenAI and Google Generative Language API. While our team may review or moderate certain outputs, not all AI-generated content is manually verified for accuracy or completeness. Users should treat such content as informational and not authoritative.

5. Advertising and Tracking

VideoKB displays advertising on the platform through Google AdWords and other third-party services. These advertising partners may use technologies such as cookies, web beacons, or tracking pixels to collect information about your browsing behavior on VideoKB and other websites. This information is used to deliver more relevant ads and measure advertising effectiveness.

By using VideoKB, you consent to the use of these technologies as described in our Privacy Policy. While we do not control the data collected by third-party advertisers, we aim to work with partners who adhere to industry best practices regarding user privacy and data protection.

You may adjust your ad personalization preferences or opt out of personalized ads by visiting Google's Ad Settings. Additionally, browser tools and extensions may help you manage how your data is tracked online.

6. Intellectual Property

All content, structure, design, and functionality of the VideoKB platform — including but not limited to logos, graphics, interface layouts, application logic, documentation, and source code — are the intellectual property of VideoKB and its authorized licensors. This material is protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws in Canada and internationally.

You may not modify, reproduce, distribute, publicly display, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from any portion of the Service without explicit written permission from VideoKB. Any unauthorized use of our intellectual property constitutes a violation of these Terms and may result in legal action and/or immediate account suspension.

Users are granted a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to access and use the Service for personal or organizational use in accordance with these Terms. This license does not grant you any ownership or other proprietary rights.

7. Trademarks

All third-party trademarks, logos, and brand names appearing on the VideoKB platform — including but not limited to YouTube™, Google™, or other content providers — are the property of their respective owners. The display of such marks on the Service does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by the trademark holders, unless expressly stated.

VideoKB is an independent platform and is not officially affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube, Google, or any other third-party content provider whose services or data may be displayed or used on the platform.

Users agree not to use any third-party logos or trademarks in a way that would misrepresent their ownership or suggest an unauthorized relationship with the original entity. Any misuse of trademarks may result in removal of content or termination of account privileges.

8. Prohibited Uses

When using VideoKB, you agree to refrain from engaging in any activity that violates applicable law, infringes upon the rights of others, or disrupts the platform's intended function. This includes, but is not limited to, submitting false or misleading information, impersonating other individuals or brands, publishing unauthorized copyrighted material, or engaging in harassment or abusive behavior toward other users or moderators.

Use of the Service to distribute spam, malware, or unauthorized advertising is strictly prohibited. Users must not attempt to gain unauthorized access to other accounts, exploit security vulnerabilities, or interfere with the Service's technical infrastructure.

Violations of this section may result in immediate account suspension, content removal, reporting to legal authorities, or permanent banning from the platform. VideoKB reserves the right to investigate and take any necessary action against prohibited conduct.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account or access to the Service, with or without prior notice, at our sole discretion. Termination may occur as a result of your violation of these Terms, abuse of platform functionality, submission of fraudulent content, or misuse of moderator privileges.

Upon termination, all rights granted to you under these Terms will immediately cease, and you must stop using the Service. Any content you have submitted may be retained by VideoKB in accordance with our data retention policies or legal obligations, and we reserve the right to continue using non-personally identifiable data for analysis, archival, or platform improvement.

You may voluntarily terminate your account at any time by contacting us directly. In such cases, we will attempt to delete or anonymize your data, except where retention is required by law or for security/audit purposes.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, VideoKB, its affiliates, and its service providers shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including but not limited to loss of profits, data, goodwill, or business interruption — arising out of or in connection with your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we were advised of the possibility of such damages.

We make no guarantees regarding the accuracy, availability, or reliability of the Service or third-party APIs such as those provided by YouTube. Content displayed on the platform is provided “as is” and may be incomplete, outdated, or withdrawn at any time without notice.

Your use of the Service is entirely at your own risk. If you are dissatisfied with any part of the Service or these Terms, your sole remedy is to discontinue use of the platform.

11. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless VideoKB, its directors, employees, agents, partners, affiliates, and licensors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, losses, costs, or expenses — including reasonable legal and accounting fees — arising out of or in any way connected with:

  • Your access to or use of the Service;
  • Your violation of these Terms;
  • Your content submissions, including any claims that such content violates or misappropriates any intellectual property rights or privacy rights of others;
  • Your conduct while interacting with other users or moderators.

This indemnity survives the termination of these Terms and your use of the Service.

12. Changes to Terms

VideoKB reserves the right to modify or update these Terms of Service at any time. Any changes will be effective immediately upon posting on the platform. We encourage users to review these Terms periodically to stay informed of their rights and obligations.

If a material change is made, we may notify users via email, on-site banners, or other reasonable methods. Continued use of the Service after changes have been made constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

If you do not agree with any modification to these Terms, you must immediately cease using the Service and, if applicable, close your account.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Quebec and the applicable laws of Canada, without regard to conflict of laws principles.

Any disputes arising from or relating to the use of the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in the Province of Quebec. You consent to submit to the personal jurisdiction of such courts for any legal proceedings related to these Terms or your use of the Service.

14. Additional Legal Disclaimers and Notices

AI-generated content, including metadata suggestions and phrasing enhancements, is provided for editorial convenience only. It may contain errors or omissions and does not represent the official opinion of VideoKB. You acknowledge that any reliance on such content is at your own risk.

VideoKB reserves the right to monitor, flag, or remove any contributions deemed abusive, spammy, manipulative, or made in bad faith. Repeated attempts to game the contribution system may result in removal of moderator status, rejection of edits, or account termination.

Each eligible user may receive only one VideoKB mug, regardless of multiple accounts or cumulative edit totals across different accounts. Attempts to bypass this policy may result in disqualification from the reward system.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We make no warranties or representations regarding the accuracy, reliability, availability, or security of the Service. Use of the platform is at your own risk.

VideoKB is an evolving platform. We may modify, discontinue, or replace features at any time without prior notice. Access to certain tools or privileges may be limited, changed, or revoked at our sole discretion.

You may not use the Service if you are located in a country subject to Canadian or U.S. government embargoes or are listed on any government list of prohibited or restricted parties. VideoKB reserves the right to restrict access in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
