Fujisawa adopted the stage name Joe Hisaishi in 1981, inspired by the American musician and composer Quincy Jones. He gained international recognition for his work on animated films, most notably his scores for Studio Ghibli films like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. His compositions often incorporate orchestral arrangements, electronic elements, and traditional Japanese instruments.
Awards
Hisaishi is an eight-time winner of the Japanese Academy Award for Best Music. He also received the Japan Medal of Honour in 2009. His scores for Departures (2008) and Spirited Away (2002) contributed to the films' Academy Award wins.
