Gayle King

Gayle King is an American broadcast journalist, television personality, author, and magazine editor. She is best known as the co-host of CBS Mornings and as an editor-at-large for O, The Oprah Magazine. King has garnered a reputation for her insightful interviews and coverage of breaking news.

Early Life

Gayle King was born on December 28, 1954, in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She spent several years of her childhood in Turkey due to her father's work. She later returned to the United States and graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in psychology.

Career

King began her career in television news as a production assistant at WJZ-TV in Baltimore. She later worked as a reporter and anchor at several local stations before joining WFSB in Hartford, Connecticut, where she spent 21 years. In 1991, she began a long association with Oprah Winfrey, contributing to O, The Oprah Magazine and appearing on various programs. In 2011, she joined CBS News as a co-host of CBS This Morning (later renamed CBS Mornings).

Personal Life

King has two children. She was married to William Bumpus from 1983 to 1993.

Awards

King has received numerous awards for her journalism, including three Emmys. She was inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame in 2018 and was named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People in 2019.
