Gary E. Grice

Gary Grice, better known by his stage name GZA (pronounced "jizza"), is an American rapper and founding member of the legendary hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan. Renowned for his intricate lyricism, complex metaphors, and chess-inspired rhymes, GZA is considered one of the most skilled lyricists in hip-hop history. His solo career has also garnered critical acclaim, with his album Liquid Swords often cited as a classic.

Early Life

Born August 22, 1966, in Brooklyn, New York, Gary Grice grew up in Staten Island. He formed the group Force of the Imperial Master (later All in Together Now) with his cousins Robert Diggs (RZA) and Russell Jones (Ol' Dirty Bastard) in the late 1970s. This group laid the foundation for what would eventually become the Wu-Tang Clan.

Career

GZA emerged as a prominent member of Wu-Tang Clan, contributing to their groundbreaking debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) in 1993. He released his debut solo album, Words from the Genius, in 1991, but it was his second solo effort, Liquid Swords (1995), produced entirely by RZA, that solidified his status as a lyrical force. He continued to release solo albums, including Beneath the Surface (1999), Legend of the Liquid Sword (2002), Pro Tools (2008), and has collaborated extensively with other artists.
